It is a common saying that “babies do not come with an instruction manual” which is true, but they certainly come with a list of demands which like all humans include clothing, food and shelter, the difference just lies in the age-appropriateness of those demands.
When it
comes to infant feeding, it is recommended that babies be exclusively breastfed
for their first six months of life, and thereafter be introduced to solid foods that
are light in consistency, and increasing the consistency of their foods as they
age. Infants are said to be ready to eat same foods as adults around age one. This tends to vary from one child to another and from one region of the world to another.
One very common misconception across different parts of the world is that infants need store-bought infant cereals. Convenient? True! Need? No! Infants need those packaged infant cereals as much as adults need fast food meals. Infant feeding does not need to be complicated. Infants can be fed mashed or pureed fruits and/or vegetables like Apple/Strawberry , banana, and baby-friendly versions of adult foods like beans , pasta , potatoes . Some of these fruits can also be fortified with meat, fish, egg yolk etc. For more baby meal ideas visit here .
Basically, the focus should be on fruits/foods readily available in your region of the world especially those in season at any given time. These homemade infant meals are not only cheaper than the store-bought , ultra-processed infant cereals, they also are healthier as ultra-processed foods have been linked to increased rates of diseases like obesity, cancer. Everyone, including infants deserve nutritious homemade meals
